THE BREED
AMERICAN CURL
These are a very rare breed throughout the world and actually not seen very often in America, their birth home. They have a mutation, which only affects their ears, causing the cartilage to harden and curl. This can vary a lot in how much the ear curls and how big the ears are. All kittens are born with normal ears that after a few days start to harden and curl. It can take up to about 8 months before the ears stop changing in regards to the curl depth and sometimes as they get older the curl can open more.
The American curl coat comes in both long and short lengths and as a general rule is very easy to manage, even in the longhaired cats. This is because the breed has little or no undercoat, giving a flat lying coat which is silky soft. Also all coats come in a large variety of coat colours such as solid, tabby, pointed, silver and smoke. I specialise in breeding silver/smoke in longhairs and currently don't have any shorthair lines.
This breed has a super personality and they love to be around their owners. They will follow you around, look for cuddles and often curl up with you. They are very affectionate and I even have one girl who will cup your hands when she wants some affection. They are also a very playful breed, called the Peter Pan of the cat breeds, as they stay playful throughout their lives. They are huge characters and really love being around a family, super companions for everyone.
